Play with Your Own Data¶
CartoScope offers an option to load external datasets.
Functionality¶
The external data loading interface generates a rich preview of the dataset before loading. It extracts metadata from the provided URL or query parameters to display:
- Dataset Name & Description: Identifies the dataset.
- Metadata: Shows key details like Organism, Tissue, Disease, Platform, and Source.
- Metrics: Displays counts (e.g., number of cells/spots) and dimensions (area).
- Collections: Lists any collections the dataset belongs to.
- Layers: Previews available background and factor layers.
This ensures you have full context before launching the analysis workspace.
Interface¶

- Dataset URL Input: Enter the link to your dataset (e.g., from CartoStore or a compatible cloud storage link).
- Preview Panel: Automatically populates with dataset details once a valid URL is provided.
- Visuals: Tries to load a thumbnail if available.
- Metadata Grid: A structured view of all available metadata.
- Action Buttons:
- Cancel: close the dialog.
- Load: Launch the CartoScope viewer with this dataset.
