What are Factor Layer, Factor Set, Factor, and Factor ID/Index?¶
These terms describe related but distinct components of factor-based spatial analysis results in CartoScope.
What does a typical factor layer configuration look like?
To illustrate the definitions, consider a dataset with:
- An active map layer titled
FICTURE - 24 factor LDA with 18um hexagons - This layer contains 24 distinct factors
- One of the selected factors is
Factor 7
| Term | Refers to | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Factor Layer | The map layer visible in the layer list and rendering view. A factor layer displays a single factor set. | The map layer titled FICTURE - 24 factor LDA with 18um hexagons |
| Factor Set | The complete collection of inferred factors contained in a single analysis result. | The set of 24 factors contained within that layer. |
| Factor | An individual component within a factor set, representing a spatial pattern, cell-state-like signal, or latent expression signature. | Factor 7 within the 24-factor set. |
| Factor ID / Index | The unique identifier (usually 0-indexed or 1-indexed) used to reference a specific factor in tables, chips, and inspection results. | The index 7 (or alias like Purkinje Cells if mapped) identifying Factor 7. |
