What is the difference between Gene and Gene Group Layers?

Gene Layer: shows one gene.

Gene Group Layer: combines multiple genes into a single visualization.

Aspect Gene Layer Gene Group Layer
N Genes Exactly one. Two or more.
Primary Purpose Inspect the precise spatial pattern of a single gene marker. Visualize the aggregate expression of a set of related markers as one coherent visual element.
Typical Use Case Verify a specific cell-type marker's spatial localization. Combine a set of markers (e.g. all marker genes of a specific cell type) to visualize the cell type's density.
Visual Appearance Colored independently based on the selected gene's color setting. Rendered as a single layer on the map with all member genes sharing the same color.
Interpretation Directly represents the expression level of that single gene. Represents a combined, normalized spatial signal from all member genes.
