How to Add Alias¶
This guide explains the three ways to add or change aliases for a factor layer in CartoScope, and how to reset back to Curated aliases.
Concepts¶
Overview¶
All alias operations are accessed through the Alias button at the top of the factor overview table in the Factor Drawer.
| Method | When to use |
|---|---|
| Manual | Edit individual factor names directly in the table |
| Upload | Apply a prepared .tsv file with aliases for all factors at once |
| Load AI-inferred | Load pre-computed AI-suggested aliases when available in the dataset |
| Reset | Restore the default Curated aliases and discard current changes |
Method 1: Manual Edit¶
Double-click any alias cell in the factor overview table to edit it inline. Press Enter or click outside the cell to confirm.
- The alias source appears as Manual after editing.
Method 2: Upload Alias File¶
For a full guide, see How to Upload Alias.
- Open the Factor Drawer and select the target factor layer.
- Click the Alias button and choose Upload Alias.
- Select your prepared
.tsvfile.
After upload, the alias source appears as Upload.
Method 3: Load AI-Inferred Alias¶
For a full guide, see How to Load AI Alias.
This option is only available when the active dataset provides an alias_ai file in its catalog.yaml.
- Open the Factor Drawer and select the target factor layer.
- Click the Alias button and choose Load AI-inferred alias.
After loading, the alias source appears as AI-inferred.
Tip
If the option is greyed out, the current factor layer does not have an AI alias available.
Reset Aliases¶
To revert to the dataset's default Curated aliases:
- Click the Alias button and choose Reset Alias.
Info
If no Curated alias is defined in the dataset, Reset will fall back to showing the original factor IDs.
